+ 4 Roller Blinds +

I bought cellphone and made a contract with cable TV and internet. I thought that I could start a practical life in Canada at last. And then I thought what should I do? Start to learn English? ASL? Go to museums? NO. First of all, I had to install 4 roller blinds to the windows of my room. The sun was too strong! I went to a furniture shop to buy roller blinds by bicycle. When I found some good size roller blinds, I found that they were heavier than I expected. I could only bring one at a time. It took 4 days to finish the installation.

+ 6 Bars!!!!!! +

I was surprised when I saw the display of a Canadian cell phone because it had 6 antenna bars! Japanese cell phones only have 3 antenna bars. It is interesting. Is a Canadian radio wave 2 times stronger than a Japanese one? (No, no. :-P)

6 bars

I think that the Canadian cell phone is more expensive than a Japanese one. If I want to use number display or voice messaging, I would have to pay an extra option fee. On the other hand, almost all Japanese cell phones provide such functions as default. If I used a Canadian cell phone like typical Japanese, I would have to pay about 2 times more.

+ The Air Bed +

I bought an air bed from the Internet. I had already bought some furniture such as a TV, a desk, and a chair; however, I didn't buy a bed because the beds in the furniture shop were too pricy for me. I wanted to save my new life's beginning cost. I bought a twin size bed because I thought that it was enough for me to sleep alone. When I pumped the air bed up, I found that it was a little bit small for me! Well, well, well... I decided to think that I got a good bed that is easy to wake up in! I would overcome my bad custom of over sleeping thanks to the non-comfortable bed.

+ Chicken English +

I have to practice English. I ordered a chicken burger and the burger shop staff brought the burger to me. When I bit the burger, I felt some strange taste. It was a cheese burger! The other day, I went to another burger shop and I ordered a chicken burger and the staff said to me "cheese burger?" My English isn't good (no, it is bad) and what was worse was when I spoke English, my voice was so small and my heart beat faster and faster because I didn't have confidence and wasn't accustomed speaking English. I know that I have to speak English more loudly than I do, but it is difficult for me. I try to speak with a loud voice and continue to order chicken burgers until I get a chicken burger!

+ International! +

I started to go to English school. It is not a private school but a free school for immigrants. I had to pay because I don't have a permanent resident card but it was cheap. I thought that the school was good for me to start learning English. I made many international friends at the school. They are French, Colombian, Iranian, Taiwanese, Mexican, Russian, Afghani, and Japanese. The conversations with them were very interesting. I found that I didn't know a lot about the world when they introduced their countries to me.

+ May Fest +

I joined May Fest which was run by several Canadian Deaf groups. I enjoyed Sign Language communication although my ASL was at a baby level, because I had been a Japanese Sign Language interpreter for 5 years in Japan and I am familiar with Deaf communication. The language is different between ASL and JSL but I felt that these Deaf cultures are similar. It was very interesting. I drank beer with Deaf friends and watched a Deaf movie, magic show and enjoyed dancing. It was a very good event!
