Is Sign Language Universal? No, it isn't. Most countries have their own Sign Language. Sometimes, historical background has influenced the kind of Sign Language used in a particular region. American Sign Language (ASL) is used in Canada (in English speaking areas) and the U.S, parts of Mexico, some Asian countries etc. Japanese Sign Language (JSL) is used in Japan.
Canada has two kinds of Sign Language. One is ASL and the other is LSQ (Langue des Signes Québecois). Canada is a bilingual country not only in the Hearing world but also in the Deaf world! Interesting, isn't it?
