Do you think that spoken language should be universal? In fact, we have an international language called "Esperanto." But I can't speak Esperanto, neither have I met anyone who does. English might be a de facto standard but for me, Japanese is the most important language. I can not imagine another language shaping my culture and identity in the same way. Can you? I think the proposal that "Sign Language should be universal" is a selfish idea from hearing world. Wouldn't you agree? |
